Exclusive! Sonam Kapoor: Being at Wimbledon has almost become a tradition
The 2025 Wimbledon men’s singles final was a star-studded spectacle, drawing celebrities from around the world, including several from Bollywood. Among those spotted at the high-voltage match between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz was Sonam Kapoor. Speaking to Bombay Times, the actress shares her fondness for the tournament, saying, “Wimbledon has almost become like a tradition.” She attended the match with her brother-in-law, Karan Boolani, while her husband, Anand Ahuja, her sister, Rhea Kapoor, and their almost three-year-old son, Vayu, stayed back.
‘I like Serena Williams because she has broken barriers’
Though she is known for her passion for fashion and cinema, Sonam also admires athletes. “My favourite sports person is Michael Jordan. He is fabulous, and I love the way he created a brand. He’s an entrepreneur, a star, good-looking – he’s a whole package,” Sonam says while talking about her favourite athletes. What about tennis players? Among tennis legends, she counts Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Steffi Graf and Serena Williams as her favourites. “I like Serena Williams because she has broken barriers. She is so unapologetically herself. She likes art and is also an art collector. She has many facets to her personality,” Sonam says as she talks about her favourite tennis players.
‘What I wear has to represent my personality’
At the match, Sonam made a striking appearance, wearing a crisp, white, tailored suit, accessorised with a strawberry pin – a look reportedly styled by her sister, Rhea. About her approach to fashion at sporting events, she explains, “I always dress for the occasion and the weather because you have to sit there for a very long time. So, comfort is key. I love dressing up, so it also has to represent my personality. The outfit I wore also had some vintage elements to it, like the jewellery.”
‘Anand and I like watching sports together’
Reflecting on her experience at the iconic tennis event, Sonam says, “This year felt special because of the energy and the players. I love being in London in summer, it feels magical.” While she admits Anand is more of a “sports nerd,” Sonam emphasises that live sports have always been something they enjoy. “We both love the experience of going to live sports, whether it is Wimbledon, basketball or cricket. We like watching sports together. It is a great way for us to spend time together,” she shares.
‘Anand has got me more into basketball, football and cricket’
Sonam shares that she has always been quite outdoorsy, with a natural interest in sports. “I love playing basketball and squash. I like anything athletic,” she says, adding that Anand has influenced some of her interests. “Anand has got me more into basketball, football and cricket. I used to enjoy cricket, but then I kind of got out of it and then got into it again after my film The Zoya Factor.”

From the racquet-shaped brooch to the shoes that featured tennis balls, Sonam truly dressed the part at her appearance.
