It was all planned in a matter of just 15 days,” says Sonakshi Sinha as she looks back at her wedding day. Sonakshi’s wedding to her Double XL co-star, Zaheer Iqbal, in June last year was a close-knit family affair. She tells us about the preparations and how she wanted to have “something from both my moms for the big events.” Excerpts from a chat:

‘I remember every single detail related to our wedding very clearly’
Talking about how she planned her big day, Sonakshi tells us, “We were very clear about having only our closest people who were genuinely happy for us. We wanted positivity and were sure of having those who loved us dearly and leave no room for gossip. That’s why it ended up being an intimate affair that reflected real celebration.”
Sonakshi and Zaheer’s friends stepped in to help them with the wedding planning. She shares, “Someone took up the duty of taking care of the decor, somebody was looking into catering, somebody got busy making the guest list, and the others took over duties related to the court signing process. Zaheer and I sent out the invitations ourselves because we wanted it to be personal. We wanted people to feel welcome on our big day. I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way because I remember every single detail related to our wedding very clearly as it was so intimate, and we were part of the planning process from scratch.”

The wedding ceremony look
The actress settled on a minimalistic look for her shaadi, wearing her mother’s sari. She paired an ivory-white richly embroidered chikankari sari with a simple striped blouse and completed her look with her mother’s choker, kundan necklace, and earrings.

Elaborating on her look, Sonakshi says, “I was clear that I wanted to wear a sari for my wedding because I wanted to be comfortable by wearing something light, which also helps me move around easily. When the wedding day came close, I felt like I should have a part of my mother with me on my big day. That’s when I decided to ask my mom to give me one of her saris. She has the best sari collection, and she laid out some of them for me. The moment I had my eyes on the white ivory sari, I knew this was the one. It took me all of five minutes to choose it.”

The wedding reception look
For her second look, the actress opted for quick online shopping. “It happened in a jiffy because the second look wasn’t planned. I was going to wear the same sari, which I wore for the wedding and the court signing formality. But since the reception was outdoors in the evening, I decided to go for a different look. I knew I wanted to wear red on my wedding day, so I went with that colour for my reception. I surfed through a couple of websites and picked this one.”

Sonakshi looked radiant in the red Banarasi sari, which was a blend of silk and cotton. Her red blouse featured chand buta with gold. “My sister-in-law, Sanam, called for the sari. I tried it and knew it was the one. While for the court signing process, I wore my mother’s jewellery, which she gifted me from her collection; for the reception, I wore my mother-in-law’s set. So, I had something from both my moms for the big events,” says Sonakshi.
