The starry couple���s last screen outing was Yash Chopra���s Silsila, after which several bigwigs of Mumbai moviedom have tried in vain to get the two together.We at Ahmedabad Times asked our celeb brigade to handpick their favourite jodis and who they���d like to see together again.
���If there is any on-screen couple I���d like to watch again, then it has to be Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha,��� says VJ Shruti Seth. The sultry sex appeal of Rekha has always complemented the towering screen presence of Bachchan senior. Actress Sheeba, who���s terribly excited with the idea, admits that ���Big B and Rekha���s body languages are in completely in sync and together they create magic on screen. I���d even like to see Rishi Kapoor-Neetu Singh and Dharamendra-Hema Malini together. If I get to pick two stars from my generation, next in the row would be Govinda and Karisma.��� ���These on screen couples looked comfortable with each other and nobody tried to overshadow the other,��� adds Sheeba.
On screen chemistry in films is not just about two good-looking actors being cast together. They have to look good together, convince the audience and fit in the storyline too. Sometimes off-screen rapport can help things a bit and that comfort level would translate on screen as well. Some of Bollywood���s best loved reel couples have gone off to tie the nuptial knot, others simply chose to move on.
Former Femina Miss India Earth Amruta Patki loved Raj Kapoor and Nargis in Shree 420, and would ���like to see Rishi Kapoor-Neetu Singh together on screen. Yet another younger couple I have loved is Madhuri and Aamir Khan. They were phenomenal together.���
Screen chemistry sure makes all the difference. The likes of Rishi Kapoor-Neetu Singh, Rishi Kapoor-Dimple Kapadia, Dharamendra-Hema Malini, Govinda-Karisma Kapur, Madhuri Dixit-Anil Kapoor and Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol have not only stirred national fantasies, ruled million hearts, but also created box-office magic. No wonder then, anxious filmmakers keep looking for the right combination when they are at the drawing boards, planning their project. Of course there are some like actor Malaika Arora Khan who insists that she���s not really ���yearning��� to see any of these couples back and is ���happy��� with the existing lot of stars (which would gladden the hearts of Saif Ali Khan-Rani Mukerji, Shahid Kapur-Vidya Balan, Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif et al no doubt).
And you have Hindrocker and Euphoria lead singer Palash Sen coming up with a really quirky one. He says, ���If there is one couple I would like to see again on screen that has to be Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra. Nobody else can take their place. While Amitabh and Shashi Kapoor also make a good pair, Amitabh-Dharmendra have always been delightful. Take Sholay or Chupke Chupke or any other film. They are wonderful together.���
Well, considering Dharam and Hema are reportedly reading a script for a film together, and SRK and Kajol are finally doing Karan Johar���s tentatively titled My Name Is Khan, looks like some dream merchants want to recreate that old screen magic once again. So here���s to many happy box-office returns of these silsilay shall we say?
