Sikkimese director Samten Bhutia's 'Tara: The Lost Star' set to shine at Cannes festival

Sikkimese filmmaker Samten Bhutia has reason to celebrate as his feature film, 'Tara: The Lost Star,' secures a coveted spot for market screening at the prestigious Cannes International Film Festival.

The movie, presented in the Nepali language, delves into the cultural tapestry of the Himalayas and Sikkim, offering an emotional social drama.


Lead by the talents Shyama Shree Sherpa and Kiran Dahal, supported by a stellar cast including Deoraj Sherpa, Loonibha Tuladhar, Shashikala Pradhan, Sushmita Bhujel, Basant Sharma, Anand Gurung, and Timothy Rai, the film promises a captivating narrative.

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Sing Tamang lauded the achievement, expressing pride in the film's selection for Cannes. On his social media post, he extended his congratulations to the entire team behind 'Tara: The Lost Star,' recognizing their dedication and vision in bringing this cinematic masterpiece to life.

Tamang emphasized the significance of the film's representation, not only as a milestone for the region but also as a platform to showcase the vibrant culture and rich narratives of the Himalayas to a global audience.
