Sidharth Malhotra Birthday Special: From Abhimanyu to Nikhil; Characters portrayed by the actor

One of the most promising faces of Bollywood, Sidharth Malhotra turns a year older today. The actor has successfully carved a niche for himself with his charm, wit and sensibility. His contribution to cinema for the millennial audience is widely appreciated and loved. Right from being the ruthless Guru, to a hopelessly romantic Nikhil, every character adorned by Sidharth isn’t devoid of depth. On his birthday, here’s looking back at five of the best on-screen characters portrayed by him.

2/6

Guru - Ek Villain

The movie portrayed Sidharth Malhotra has ‘Guru’ - a ruthless gangster working for a mob boss. He eventually has change of heart when he falls in love, with a charming free-spirited lady (Shraddha Kapoor) who suffers from a terminal illness. However, things take a turn, when she gets murdered by a sadistic serial killer (Riteish Deshmukh). Throughout the movie, it was endearing to watch Guru breaking boundaries to fulfil his wife’s last wishes and finding a home in her.

3/6

Abhimanyu - Student Of The Year

Sidharth’s Bollywood debut with ‘Student Of The Year’ made him an overnight sensation, being every girl’s heartthrob. He was portrayed as Abhimanyu Singh, a scholarship student of limited financial means, who competes with his wealthy best friend Rohan (Varun Dhawan) to win an annual school championship. He was also seen stuck in a love triangle when he got smitten by Rohan’s girlfriend (Alia Bhatt). Helmed by Karan Johar, the movie was a fresh take on love and friendships.

4/6

Arjun - Kapoor and Sons

Not all families are perfect, and that’s what helped in waving the craft in 'Kapoor & Sons'. The movie tells the story of two estranged brothers who return to their dysfunctional family after their grandfather suffers a cardiac arrest. Siddharth is seen playing the role of an author titled ‘Arjun’ who struggles to get his books published, resorting to working part-time as a bartender to make ends meet and writing in his spare time. He is often compared with his brother (Fawad Khan) who is a successful author which upsets him.

5/6

Nikhil - Hasee Toh Phasee

Back in 2017, Vinil Mathew’s ‘Hasee Toh Phasee’ taught us a very important lesson about relationships back then. In the movie Siddharth becomes ‘Nikhil’ - a struggling businessman who is all set to marry his long term girlfriend, Karishma (Adah Sharma), believing himself to be in love. Things take a turn when he ends up falling in love with her smart, geeky and quirky sister, Meeta (Parineeti Chopra).

6/6

Raghu - Marjaavan

For movie buffs who can bear with the intensity of 80’s cinema in this generation, Marjaavan consists of the right element of violence, drama and love to make it remarkable. Helmed by Milap Zaveri, the movie portrayed Sidharth Malhotra as Raghu - a loyal goon to a local thug controlling the water mafia, who falls in love with a charming muted lady (Tara Sutaria) which helps him come to terms with his softer side.
