The war drama Shershaah won the Special Jury Award at the prestigious National Award, announced in New Delhi yesterday. The movie, based on the life of martyr Vikram Batra, who gave up his life for the country in the Kargil war, starred real life couple Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani, who later went on and tied the knot.
Soon after the win, both Sidharth and Kiara took to their IG handles to share a note, expressing their excitement. Kiara wrote, “This win is so so special. Such a humbling moment for our entire team, truly grateful for the immense love our film Shershaah has received. Congratulations team #Shershaah"
On the other hand, Sidharth said that “#Shershaah is a special film for me. I’m honoured and humbled as it becomes my first film to win a National Award. Thank you and congratulations to our entire team #VishnuVardhan, @iamsandeepshrivastava, @karanjohar, @dharmamovies, @shabbirboxwalaofficial, @kiaraaliaadvani, @azeemdayani, @baidnitin and the rest of the cast. And finally, where it all started, thank you to @batra7478 and family for trusting us to tell this braveheart's story. #NationalFilmAwards"
Earlier, filmmaker Karan Johar, who produced the film reacted to this win with a 'thank you' post on social media. "What an absolute honour! Extending my deepest gratitude to @mib_india & to the esteemed @official.anuragthakur for recognising our film #Shershaah worthy of the prestigious National Award. You will so rarely find all the right people at the right time - come together with their buzzing creative energies and passion to create something special…that turns into something EXTRAORDINARY! Shershaah was that for us. Thank you for giving us your unabashed love. Yeh dil maange more!��������," he wrote.
Shabbir Boxwala who was also one of the producers of Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani starrer said to ETimes, "I am overwhelmed. It is a prestige to receive a National Award. It was a lot of hard work for the team and it's paid off. This film was very close to our heart so we are overjoyed. Vikram Batra's family is also very overjoyed."
