Veteran director Shoojit Sircar has an affinity towards daughter-father stories and recently the ‘Piku’ director revealed the reason behind it.
Talking to News18, Shoojit mentioned his films ‘Piku’ and ‘I Want to Talk’ as ‘daughter-father’ stories more than being termed as ‘father-daughter’ stories. Revealing the reason behind this, he said that he also has two daughters who are the decision-makers in his family.
He also mentioned that the lead actor in ‘I Want to Talk’, Abhishek Bachchan has a daughter, the writer Ritesh Shah has a daughter, and the producer Ronnie also has a daughter which makes all of them ‘Proud fathers of daughters’.
Shoojit further explained that the theme of ‘I Want to Talk’ is different from his other movies such as ‘Piku’. He said that the Deepika Padukone starrer was about a father raising his daughter and coming to the Abhishek Bachchan starrer, it’s all about how a daughter is raising her father.
“She was dictating his life every time his daughter came in. She helped him become a person. She gave him hints through her eyes as she tried bridging the gap in their relationship,” says the ‘I Want to Talk’ director.
He also said that it’s normal for someone to find a connection between the characters Bhashkor played by Amitabh in ‘Piku’, and Abhishek Bachchan’s character Arjun in ‘I Want to Talk’. “I think they both merge somewhere due to their irritability, confusion, and other factors, also the need to give gyaan all the time.”
Shoojit also said that Abhishek’s character has made some mistakes in his relationship with his daughter in the movie without him realizing it.
Meanwhile, ‘I Want to Talk’ has release today and is getting good reviews.
