Love confession

In the film, we saw Vikram and Dimple meet during their university days in Chandigarh. Being a part of the same group, the duo started off as friends and later turned into lovers. Dimple and Vikram ended up confessing their liking for each other while enjoying some quality time on a picnic. In the film, we saw how Sidharth and Kiara shared their first kiss soon after they started seeing each other. Despite Dimple’s family disapproving of her relationship, she decided to stand by Vikram. She even ended up telling her family that she will not marry anyone else but him. Earlier, while speaking to ETimes, Kiara spoke about her idea of marriage. Relating to Dimple’s idea, the actress had said, “I think when you are in love--and if you are lucky to be in love the way they were--and to have that kind of love in your life, then with all these conflicts, you also find the strength to fight for that. That’s what she did. I think she’s a very strong personality herself. She’s somebody who fought against the odds to make the relationship work. I think she really stood strong through it all. In that sense, I think I would definitely give her full credit for being that person and for being so strong. I think what I really connected with was her commitment to love; I feel that’s how I am also as a person. So that’s something I could relate to. Her reason for marriage was love and that’s why she chose to remain unmarried. I feel for me also my reason for marriage would always be love. That was a quality between her and me that just instantly made me connect with the story and the thought.”

The ‘wedding’

This was one of the cutest moments in the film. Once they started dating, the couple used to go to a gurudwara to seek blessings. During one such visit, when he had returned home for a few days, while walking behind her in the gurudwara, Vikram kept holding her dupatta. And after seeking blessings from God, Vikram turned to her and said, “Congratulations, Mrs Batra”. Soon after he tells her this, Dimple can’t stop blushing.

Sindoor scene

This scene from the film is adorable yet emotional. Sidharth’s character in the film is seen leaving for his posting and bidding goodbye to Dimple. But it is so difficult to let him go for her. When she asks him when will they get married in a Hindu ceremony which Vikram wants, he nicks his thumb and applies his blood like sindoor. Dimple used to always tease him saying he was very filmy, and during this scene, she reiterates, ‘Kitna filmy banda mila hai mainu’. This scene ends with Dimple hugging Vikram and crying inconsolably.

Heartbreaking funeral scene

While our soldiers won the Kargil war, Vikram Batra sacrificed his life for the nation. His mortal remains were brought to his hometown Palampur and his funeral was attended by thousands of people. But in the film, Dimple is shown reaching the cemetery after his mortal remains were cremated. This scene in the film will make you weep like a baby. Their unconditional love is what true love stories are made of! To date, Dimple hasn’t gotten married and lives like his widow. She currently teaches in a school.
