At 60 years old,
Milind Soman remains the poster boy for ageless fitness, but he insists the real superstar of the family is his 86-year-old mother, Usha Soman. In a recent conversation with IANS, the actor-model revealed that his mother’s daily routine includes skipping rope and walking up to 30 km—feats he claims should be considered "normal" rather than extraordinary.
Milind Soman on his mother's fitness
"Look at my mother. She's 86. She still skips. She can skip with a skipping rope. She can hop. She's hiking. She can walk 20-30 kilometres very, very comfortably," he said.
While many are amazed by her energy, Milind Soman believes such fitness should not be seen as extraordinary and he also stressed that people of that age can remain active with the right lifestyle. He pointed out that consistent self-care plays a key role in maintaining health, "People say that, 'Oh, your mother is so amazing.' I say, yes, but that is normal. Everybody at her age should be able to do this if they take care of themselves."
Breaking age stereotypes at 60
The actor also opened up about perceptions around ageing. He said people are often surprised by his appearance and fitness levels and according to him, society has built a fixed idea of how people in their sixties should look.
"I think I look like a very normal 60-year-old. Probably it's just such a notion in everybody's head that 60 should look a certain way," he said.
Simple lifestyle over gym culture
Milind Soman also explained his personal approach to fitness. He shared that he does not depend on gyms, trainers, or strict diet plans. Instead, he integrates simple physical activities into his daily routine. "People are disconnected from themselves." In the last 50-60 years, with technology and so many advances, we have been encouraged to give up our inherent abilities."
"I don't go to the gym. I don't have a trainer. I don't have a nutritionist or dietitian. I decide what I need to do and I incorporate that into my lifestyle," he said.
He further added, "If there's a lift and stairs, I will take the stairs. Ninety-nine per cent of the time I'll climb the stairs, sometimes even three steps at a time. That's my opportunity to exercise."
Family fitness
Earlier in 2025, Milind Soman shared a heartwarming video with his family that featured him, his wife Ankita, and his mother Usha Soman skipping together.
Soman captioned the post, “Family skipping time. Aai (Mother) is now 86, and skipping is something she does every day, apart from yoga and other movements. Long life, health and happiness to all,” Milind wrote in the caption of the post. On the work front, the actor is preparing for his upcoming project 'Kaattaan' which has 'Jawan' actor Vijay Sethupathi in the lead.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the
