Writer-Director Manish Gupta, who has written Sarkar and directed The Stoneman Murders, had approached Shahid Kapoor to play the lead in his next film Hostel. The role was that of an engineering student who is stripped fully naked in front of his college and even sexually assaulted during severe ragging inside his hostel. After hearing the basic concept, Shahid refused to even read the script or hear a narration and said a straight 'No'.
Manish then approached Kunal Khemu, who apparently was very rude and discourteous to Manish. He did not even reply to Manish’s smses. Manish was furious at Kunal and swore never to approach him or work with him again. He then approached Shreyas Talpade, who was professional but he politely declined since he was not comfortable with playing a guy who is stripped naked, beaten and humiliated throughout the film.
Finally, the makers zeroed in on to Vatsal Sheth, who got goosebumps after he heard Manish’s narration of the film, and Manish assured him that he would shoot the scenes in a way that his (Vatsal’s) dignity would be maintained.Check Out Shahid Kapoor’s HomepageFollow us on Twitter for more stories Looks like our boys are more shy than most of our girls who are ready to flaunt their curves and so much more in front of camera!
