Shahid Kapoor's 'Farzi', Allu Arjun's 'Pushpa', John Abraham's 'Dhoom': Bollywood movies/series that inspired real life crimes

Bollywood's impact on Indian society is undeniable. They are known for their ability to entertain, inspire, and sometimes even influence people in unexpected ways. However, there have also been instances where real-life crimes were committed after individuals took inspiration from Bollywood movies and series. They are a stark reminder that the media has the power to shape not only our perceptions but also our actions. Here's taking a look at films/series that have inspired people to commit crimes.

2/6

'Farzi'

Shahid Kapoor garnered immense love and appreciation from all sides for his brilliant performance in 'Farzi' which marked his digital debut. However, little did he know that the series will inspire some people to use it in scamming people. A few men in Mumbai reportedly earned a whopping amount after selling fake garba passes. Following their arrest, one of the main accused reportedly confessed that they took inspiration from the Shahid Kapoor starrer to create counterfeit event passes and generate fast money.

'Pushpa: The Rising'

In a distressing turn of events, a group of teenagers in Delhi committed a heinous crime with the goal of establishing themselves as gangsters. Allegedly influenced by the film 'Pushpa,' they took the life of an innocent individual as part of their misguided attempt to gain notoriety in the criminal world.

In a separate incident, a sandalwood smuggler apparently inspired by Allu Arjun's character in 'Pushpa' attempted to outwit the police while engaging in illegal activities related to sandalwood smuggling. These cases underscore the concerning impact of media on impressionable individuals and highlight the importance of responsible storytelling in the entertainment industry.

'Bunty Aur Babli'

A couple in West Bengal committed burglaries in two homes, seemingly influenced by the Bollywood movie 'Bunty Aur Babli.' Their method involved the woman posing as a beautician, gaining entry into the targeted residences under the pretense of providing beauty services. Once inside, she would ask the victims to wear a face mask and refrain from removing it for an hour. During this time, the couple would proceed to rob the house, carrying out theft and property-related crimes. This case underscores the concerning impact of individuals replicating criminal acts they may have seen in films or other media. In the film, Rani Mukerji and Abhishek Bachchan are seen pulling off similar acts.

5/6

'Special 26'

A gang of eight men in Mumbai, masquerading as Income Tax officials and armed with fake identification and a fabricated search warrant, looted a staggering sum of Rs 1.5 crore from the residence of a garment dealer. What makes this even more unsettling is that the Bollywood film 'Special 26' drew inspiration from real-life events, and it has been revealed that this incident is just one of fifteen cases of robbery reported, all influenced by the movie. The film starred Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher and others in lead roles.

6/6

'Dhoom'

The 2006 film 'Dhoom', featuring John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan, was a major box office success. In the movie, John Abraham's character is depicted as stealing money from a casino in Goa. Tragically, this cinematic portrayal inspired a group of four bikers to attempt a bank robbery in Kerala. When these criminals were eventually apprehended by the police, they confessed that their idea to rob a bank was directly influenced by the movie 'Dhoom.'
