1x1 polls
In an industry where the hero is unfailingly the main protagonist with actresses merely lending eye-candy-appeal, this is highly commendable.

Be it Pinjar, Bhoot or Kaun, the actress has time and again proved that she can not only carry off intense, touching roles, but also turn on the oomph when required. In fact, it wouldn''t be far off the mark to say that this Maharashtrian mulgi has the best of both worlds. We catch up with her on the eve of her next release, Khalid Mohammad''s Tehzeeb where she plays the title role.

How was it working with a noted actress like Shabana Azmi in Tehzeeb?

Urmila : “It was tremendous working with Shabanaji because she is easily the country''s best actress with a phenomenal career behind her. I have never seen anyone so methodical, sincere and talented. It was a learning process working with Shabanaji. And it just teaches people like me how long we have to go still.

You were supposed to work in Khalid Mohammad''s Fiza earlier but were replaced by Karisma.

Urmila : “To the best of my knowledge, I was not supposed to do Fiza. If I was, then you can ask Mr Khalid Mohammad this question.

What convinced you to do this film?

Urmila : “Tehzeeb has a brilliant script. It''s a movie about relationships which very few makers and very few actresses really dare to do because it is a very challenging thing to do. You are dealing with something that is so delicate. So it is very sassy, funny and explosive at the same time. You never know what is going to come next. There is that kind of unpredictability in the film that was very very exciting for me as an actress. And of course, who would throw away a chance to work with Shabanaji ? Even if she overshadows me!

You are one of the few actresses who have done author-backed roles. That is quite a compliment to your acting prowess.

Urmila : "I honestly don''t sit and think about all these things. I just think it is only the media who gets into all these things. When I did Judaai too, they were like ''Oh my God, why is she doing this now'', but I guess they''ll do their job and I''ll do mine and we''ll keep working in harmony, hopefully."
