Shaad Randhawa hints at possible return in 'Awarapan 2' despite his character’s death

Emraan Hashmi is now all set to start shooting for the 'Awarapan' sequel. The makers are planning to bring back the popular song 'Tera Mera Rishta' in 'Awarapan 2', though this time Mohit Suri won’t be directing the film. Most details, including the cast, are still under wraps. However, on Emraan’s birthday this year, an announcement video confirmed that the sequel will release in theatres on April 3, 2026. The big question now is whether Shaad Randhawa will also be part of the film.

For those who may not know, Shaad played Hashmi’s best friend and business partner in 'Awarapan'. However, his character was killed in the film. Speaking to News18 Showsha, Shaad did not completely deny the possibility of being part of the sequel, “I’ve no idea if I’m doing Awarapan 2 (laughs). But let’s see."

Awarapan’s journey over the years

The 2007 film, which also featured Shriya Saran, didn’t perform too well at the box office but slowly built a loyal fan base over the years. Remembering that phase, Shaad shared that the film’s failure at first, “I agree with Emraan when he says that Awarapan has aged well. I remember that when the film didn’t do well at the box office, we all were really disappointed. Everyone was so confident about it. We knew that we’re a part of a very good film."

Shaad on Awarapan’s lasting impact

Shaad, known for 'Saiyaara' and 'Ek Villain', said that with time, 'Awarapan' earned the success it deserved. He believes every good film eventually gets its due, even if it doesn’t do well at the box office initially. Drawing a parallel to life, he added that if someone stays consistent and keeps doing good work, people will eventually recognise it.

Struggles after 'Awarapan'

Life after 'Awarapan' was not easy for Shaad. A year later, he played the lead in 'Dhoom Dhadaka', but the film failed at the box office. With offers slowing down, he stayed away from films for nearly three years and tried his hand at diamond assortment.

Return to films

A chance meeting with Mohit Suri eventually brought him back to the big screen, and his comeback project turned out to be the hit film 'Aashiqui 2'.

The actor recalled that during the three years when he had no acting work, he decided to try something new. He got into the diamond business, spending time with people who specialised in assortment, and kept himself occupied.

He recalled a turning point when he went to the party for 'Blood Money'. He recalled "That’s where I met Mohit again. He asked me what I was up to and told me, ‘You want to act again? You still want to act na?’ He called me to his office the next day. I met him and (Mahesh) Bhatt saab and that’s where Vivek’s character from Aashiqui 2 was offered to me."
