Sense, sensibility and Ranvir

If his acting wows you on screen, then off it Ranvir Shorey's sense and sensibility leaves one hugely impressed.
Sense, sensibility and Ranvir
He's got a rather wry style. His innocent expressions often have a zany tinge to them, which make him endearing on the silver screen.
If his acting wows you on screen, then off it Ranvir Shorey's sense and sensibility leaves one hugely impressed. Excerpts from the hearty conversation he had with Team NT on his visit to our office:
Bonding with Vinay Pathak: The bonding Ranvir and Vinay share is there for all to see.
1x1 polls
So, ask Ranvir if he's wary of the fatigue factor creeping in because of working together often and he says, "Not really! We've done anchoring, commercials, TV show and films and for quite some time now. Work brings us together and that we are friends makes working on a film easier."
New avenues: With his wacky one-liners and goofy expressions, the actor was loved as a VJ on the tube. Ask him why that slot is almost dead today and he says, "Veejaying isn't dead. Today, you have newer avenues like reality shows to fulfill aspirations!" And will he ever take part in a reality show? Pat comes the reply: "If I need the moolah, why not!" And which kind of reality show will he choose - dance, game show, adventure? "It will depend on how badly I need the money," says he.
'Mallika ka thappad!': That he's a man with a terrific sense of humour, was visible when he regaled us with his tongue-in-cheek takes on various things. When asked to comment on his sweltering hot co-star Mallika Sherawat of Ugly aur Pagli, Ranvir said: "Main Mallika ke thappad kha kha ke hii mashhoor hua hoon! And I got many more slaps than what people saw in the film!" When asked how he manages to work with co-actors as different as chalk and cheese (read Konkona Sen and Mallika), he says: "If there's comfort factor, all the other differences can be bridged! But, it's difficult to work with those whom you can't stand personally!"

What's in a name!: Interestingly, his forthcoming film Emotional Atyachar reminds one of the reality TV show. Rag him about this, and he says: "My film is also about betrayal, it has greed, sex and violence! But, the similarity ends there! Nobody has a copyright on Emotional Atyachar, other than Anurag Kashyap maybe!"
Spotlight woes: Being in the news is what is termed as most important for a star's survival. Quiz the actor on his taciturn qualities and he says, "I'd love to hire a PR too, but to keep the spotlight away from my relationships! I just can't handle the spotlight and can't pass on juicy bits of goss just to be in the news. That's not me!"
OTT comedy: While comedy is Ranvir's flair ask him if doing slapstick comedy is not his cup of tea and he says, "I don't follow any genre. The way a Dibakar Banerjee conceptualizes a film is different from a David Dhawan! I've worked with both, since as an actor I am just a tool in the director's hands."
Dark spaces: Ranvir has worked in different genres of films, but he confesses, "I don't dig the candy floss and rosy kind of film subjects. Give me anything dark and grey! They are spaces that excite me as an actor! In fact, in many of my films though I am the funny guy, there's a grey shade to my character."
Theatre stint: Busy with shows of his play The Blue Mug, Ranvir says, "The basic premise of this play was that you had to share a great relationship with your co-actors. As we recall past memories, the exploration works seamlessly across individuals. And as we did this believe me, often we ended up with a headache! To me this play was almost therapeutic and a catharsis of sorts!"
'Women and I': With most of his pictures falling in the funny category, ask the handsome Ranvir why sexy and hot pics that appeal to the fairer sex eludes his portfolio and giving a rather benign smile, he says, "I have done my bit for women kind.” Does this ‘realised’ state of mind and heart mean that he is ready to settle down with his sweetheart (read Konkona) and he says,“I didn’t say that and I am not saying anything more. Keep guessing!”
