mumbai: seema biswas, who enacted the role of phoolan devi in shekhar kapur's acclaimed movie bandit queen , on wednesday expressed shock over the death of the former dacoit and samajwadi party mp. 'i met phoolan devi after the shooting of bandit queen . i vividly recall her face. she was sitting in a hotel and kapur introduced me to her', biswas said.
biswas first thought that kapur was introducing her to a film star but it turned out to be phoolan with a child in her lap. 'i was so surprised to meet phoolan devi that i told her that i must give you a hug. i also mentioned about my anxiousness to meet her', biswas said. she, however, responded 'i am upset that you did not meet me before essaying my role. biswas told her.' 'i wanted to but so much controversy had erupted in the meantime.' biswas said she met phoolan on another occasion when they met while going to siri fort for the film show and throughout the drive she kept praising her saying 'i feel as if i am acting in this and not you.' biswas remembers phoolan telling her 'i have undergone a lot of trauma in real life but i am amazed at the way you portrayed me. i feel that it's me'. biswas said phoolan's husband too praised her role and said she was fit in the role of dacoit queen. 'after that, i received a message that she wanted to meet me but it never happened'.
