'Satyameva Jayate 2', 'Attack', 'Pathan': Upcoming John Abraham films we can't wait to watch

John Abraham likes to choose his scripts carefully and then dedicate himself fully to the film, which means that his fans usually have to wait for a long time to watch their favourite actor on the big screen. But the coronavirus-induced lockdown has created a backlog of films that are now either on the floors or gearing up for a release, as a result of which John will have as many as five releases after his last stint in the 2019 comic caper, ‘Pagalpanti’.

From Milap Zaveri’s ‘Satyameva Jayate 2’ co-starring Divya Khosla Kumar to Siddharth Anand’s ‘Pathan’ with Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan, here’s a lowdown on the films featuring the actor:

‘Attack’

John Abraham is gearing up for action with his next titled, ‘Attack’. Inspired by true events, the tale revolves around a hostage crisis. Written and directed by Lakshya Raj Anand, 'Attack' was scheduled to release last year before the pandemic struck. The actioner also stars Jacqueline Fernandez and Rakul Preet Singh as the female leads. John had previously told Mumbai Mirror that he is walking on eggshells with 'Attack', asking himself if the audience will accept it. According to him, it is a risk, but he believes people are tired of the regular action films and he wants to effect a change.

‘Satyameva Jayate 2’

Immediately after the box office success of ‘Satyameva Jayate’ in 2018, the makers had announced the second instalment of the film. The sequel features John along with Manoj Bajpayee and Divya Khosla Kumar in lead roles. It is scheduled for a release in May this year, on the occasion of Eid. The Milap Zaveri film will be locking horns with Prabhudheva’s ‘Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai’, which stars Salman Khan and Disha Patani.

‘Pathan’

Director Siddharth Anand has roped in John as the antagonist for his spy thriller starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. The film will mark the return of King Khan on the silver screen after a sabbatical of two long years and will also see John turn villain after 'Dhoom'. The unit has reportedly planned to kick off the film's Middle East schedule in mid-February, where a stylised chase sequence with SRK and John will be shot.

‘Ek Villain 2’

Mohit Suri is all set to take his ‘Ek Villain' franchise ahead with the second instalment that will star John in the lead along with Tara Sutaria and Disha Patani. The film will be a first-time collaboration for John and Mohit. According to reports, John’s character in the intense drama-thriller is more of an anti-hero than a villain. The makers are reportedly planning to title the film, ‘Do Villain’ as there will be two grey characters.

‘Mumbai Saga’

After ‘Zinda’ and ‘Shootout at Wadala’, John Abraham has collaborated with director Sanjay Gupta on his upcoming film, ‘Mumbai Saga’. The film also stars Emraan Hashmi, Jackie Shroff, Gulshan Grover, and others in key roles. John will be seen playing the role of Ganpat Ram Bhonsle in the film that is set in the '80s-'90s and chronicles how Bombay became Mumbai. The story is inspired by real incidents.
