Prayers at Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga

While promoting her film 'Zara Hatke Zara Bachke,' Sara visited the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga temple in Ujjain. Her visit garnered mixed responses, with some asking why she was participating in Hindu rituals. In response to the unfortunate backlash, she indicated that she has faith in equal measure, whether a temple, a gurudwara, or a dargah. For Sara spirituality is about devotion across not only religions, but everyday boundaries as well.

Faith at Ajmer Sharif Dargah

Sara's spiritual voyages have also taken her to the Ajmer Sharif Dargah in Rajasthan, which she has visited many times over the years. Wearing traditional garb, she was photographed tying up a sacred thread, indicative of faith or gratitude. Of course, the actor had also visited the site alongside her mother Amrita Singh in 2021. Her continued visits tells me that there is an ongoing relationship with the site, and a spiritual tethering with the sacred place and energy.

Discovering heritage in Kashmir

During her time in Kashmir, Sara stopped by the Martand Sun Temple in Anantnag, an exquisite specimen of Hindu architecture dating back to the 8th century, and also the location in which the song 'Bismil' was filmed for 'Haider' (2014), and posted a few pictures to her social media accounts showing how she has a strong admiration for Indian history. Her visit and experience at different historical sites certainly reveal that soul safari does in fact go beyond film.

Offering prayers at Kamakhya Temple

During 2021, Sara visited Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, Assam. She offered prayers standing in front of Goddess Kamakhya in a white kurta and wearing the traditional Assamese gamosa. The actor visited with a friend which prompted a tour of several other local temples while basking in the energy of the place. She reflected in gratitude, as if memorializing what was an experience shared with friends, and publicly thanked the filmmakers for the visit on social media.

Promoting religious harmony

Sara's interfaith travels often articulate themes of unity and acceptance. While in Kashmir, her pilgrimage recounted visits to a church, mosque, gurdwara, and temple, showing respect to each faith equally. The imagery shared on her travel expressed her sentiments of beauty found in shared experience. On travel such as this, she calls for peace and spiritual reflection.

6/6

The Amarnath Yatra experience

Sara has also accomplished the sacred Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir, a physical pilgrimage along the rugged Himalayan way. She also interacted with those pilgrims descending the mountain, and translated parts of her journey on social media. The actor posted a travel video with the emotional song "Namo Namo" attached from 'Kedarnath'. Her video featured her feelings of spirituality and peace she obtained from the travels.
