Dressed in a blue shirt and jeans with ashtagandha smeared on his forehead, Sanju walked out of the jail a free man and saluted the Indian flag. Wife Maanayata and filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani received the actor. Sanju was willing to speak to the media but was advised to head straight to the Pune Airport to avoid a ruckus. He took a chartered plane to Mumbai. From the airport, he drove straight to the Siddhivinayak Temple at Prabhadevi, escorted by security. At the temple, there was a minor altercation between the police and the media as the latter was stopped from entering the temple premises. As scheduled, the actor then drove to his mother Nargis Dutt's grave at Marine Lines, before heading home to his Pali Hill residence.

Fans were gathered outside his home at Imperial Heights with bouquets, while musicians played Nashik dhol for the Bandra boy's homecoming. The first thing Sanju said after stepping out of the prison was, 'There is no easy walk to freedom.'
