The first quarter of 2020 has come to an end and was a mixed bag for B-town. From Shabana Azmi surviving an accident to Karan Johar-Kangana Ranaut and Ekta Kapoor being honoured with a Padma Shri and Salman Khan losing his cool with a fan – a lot happened in Bollywood. Also, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt hit headlines for their wedding talks, while Kanika Kapoor was in the news for testing positive for Covid-19. Here’s taking a look at all the newsmakers of first quarter of 2020.

Karan Johar, Kangana Ranaut honoured with Padma Shri

The prestigious Padma Shri awards were announced in January with Karan Johar, Kangana Ranaut, Ekta Kapoor, Suresh Wadkar and Adnan Sami being honoured. While Karan and Kangana have been at loggerheads, KJo said in an interview with Mumbai Mirror, “As a filmmaker, I respect Kangana’s talent, craft, and what she brings to the table. She is an actor who has proved her mettle and is deserving of the honour. Besides Ekta and Adnan Sami, I am honoured to receive the Padma Shri alongside Kangana.” The actress had also congratulated KJo and stated that he has earned the top spot because of his own efforts and merit.

Shabana Azmi survived an accident

Earlier this year, Shabana Azmi met with an accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Her car had reportedly rammed into the rear of a truck near the Khalapur toll plaza. Shabana Azmi was first rushed to a local hospital and then shifted to a medical care facility in Mumbai. After being discharged from the hospital, the actress had shared a gratitude note on Twitter, “Thank you all for your prayers and wishes for my recovery. I am back home now Thank you.” Soon after recovering from the accident, Shabana Azmi reportedly started shooting for her next venture too.

Salman Khan lost cool with a fan

A video of Salman Khan at the Goa International Airport went viral on the internet in January, wherein the actor is seen snatching a mobile phone from the hands of a fan and walking away with it. At Dabolim airport, a fan of the actor tried to click a selfie with him and seemed to have angered Salman. The actor was heading to join the shoot of his Eid release ‘Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai’, when this incident occurred.

Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt’s wedding

Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt have been ruling headlines for their romance in the first quarter of 2020. There was buzz that Ranbir-Alia have parted ways, however refuting the same a source had informed ETimes, “These reports are all baseless and untrue. You all can be assured that Ranbir and Alia are very much in love and together.” A recent report stated that Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt will tie the knot in December this year, after the release of their film ‘Brahmastra’.

Kanika Kapoor tested positive for Covid-19

Kanika Kapoor hit headlines in March when the popular singer tested positive for Covid-19. She had returned from UK and travelled to Lucknow, where she attended a few gatherings. The ‘Baby Doll’ singer tested positive after five consecutive tests. Kanika’s family revealed in an interview with a news portal that she had asked the staff to clean the dirt in her room while the director of SGPGIMS stated that the singer was throwing starry tantrums. Kanika’s family also said that she had no symptoms of Covid-19 now and is waiting for a negative test so that she can return home.

Sussanne Khan moved in with Hrithik Roshan

Coronavirus has got Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan temporarily closer. She moved in to stay with Hrithik at his Juhu residence, so that both of them could stay with their kids Hrehaan and Hridhaan during lockdown. “This is a picture of dear Sussanne (my ex wife) , who has graciously volunteered to temporarily move out of her home so that our children are not disconnected indefinitely from either one of us. Thank you Sussanne for being so supportive and understanding in our journey of co-parenting. Our children will tell the story we create for them,” Hrithik had shared in a social media post. Rakesh Roshan had reacted to Sussanne’s gesture and told a news portal that the world has to be together and supportive in difficult times.

Richa Chadha-Ali Fazal postpone wedding

Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal are all set to tie the knot this year. Reports suggested that the couple was to marry in the last week of April and had applied for a date for the registration too. However, due to Coronavirus outbreak, Richa and Ali postponed their wedding. “Given the current scenario and the unfortunate turn of events owing to the COVID-19 pandemic globally, Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha have decided to postpone their wedding functions to the later half of 2020 tentatively. They wish for everyone to be healthy and safe and at no cost would want their friends, families and well wishers to be affected,” their spokesperson had said in a statement.

'83, ‘Sooryavanshi’ postponed due to Coronavirus

Coronavirus brought Bollywood to a standstill as Bollywood celebrities retreated into self-isolation. Akshay Kumar’s much talked about cop drama ‘Sooryavanshi’, which was scheduled to hit the screens on March 24, was postponed due to the health scare. The release of Ranveer Singh starrer '83 was also shifted. Moreover the international schedule of Salman Khan's ‘Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai’ as well as the shoot of films like ‘Jersey’, ‘Takht’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ was also cancelled.
