Gujarats sky is all set to get a filmy makeover as already released movies like Dilwale, Bahubali, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo vie for attention in the kites.
Yusuf Rangrej, owner of a kite shop in the Jamalpur area, says, A lot of youngsters have already bought kites that have film posters printed on them. It is a custom to print movie posters on kites every year, but this year specifically the prices have increased due to lack of kites in the market.
Yusuf, who sells 20 kites for Rs 60 informs, Corporates ask us to print their logos on kites which they buy in bulk. This year, Dhollywood movies too, seem to be the current flavor with posters of Chhello Divas set to rule the sky.
Shabbir Shaikh, who owns a shop in Jamalpur is passionate about kites and makes them himself for selling. His shop particularly catches ones attention because of miniature firkis and tiny kites hung for sale. Mine is the only shop in this area which has tiny kites used by schools and temples across the city for decoration purposes. Last week a firm from Hyderabad bought 10,000 tiny kites for decoration during a festival there. My inspiration came when my grandson was born, says Shaikh who has been selling kites for the last 10 years, as he shows off a miniature of parrot shaped kite.
Kamlesh Patel, a customer says, I am a huge Salman fan, so I have decided to buy Sultan and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo kites this year. I have already bought over a 100 kites that I will be flying with my family and friends.
Apart from new movie posters, the kite market this year also has some interesting shots from panda caps to bull horns on them The market also has Venetian masks for kite enthusiasts of Amdavad.
