Salim Khan is in the ICU: Lilavati doctor confirms

Veteran screenwriter Salim Khan,90, was admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital, Bandra. While the exact reason for his hospitalisation is not yet officially disclosed, a senior doctor at the hospital, speaking on condition of anonymity, told us, “He is in the ICU. Please talk to the family representative.”


As of now, the Khan family has not released a public statement on his condition. Efforts to reach family representatives for a formal update were ongoing at the time of filing this report.

News of his hospitalisation first began circulating on Tuesday evening after a well-known paparazzo spotted his son, actor Salman Khan, arriving at Lilavati Hospital. Videos and photos of Salman entering and exiting the hospital premises soon surfaced online, prompting speculation about a medical emergency in the Khan family. Shortly after, industry sources indicated that Salim Khan had been admitted, leading to widespread concern among fans and well-wishers.




At this point, the exact reason for his admission remains unclear. No medical bulletin has been released, and hospital authorities are maintaining patient confidentiality. Those close to the family say they are requesting privacy until there is greater clarity on his condition.

Salim Khan, one half of the iconic Salim–Javed partnership, is regarded as a pioneer who transformed the grammar of mainstream Hindi cinema in the 1970s. At a time when writers rarely enjoyed visibility or authority, he helped place screenwriting at the centre of filmmaking. Along with Javed Akhtar, he crafted some of the most enduring Hindi films, including Zanjeer, Deewaar, Sholay, Don, Trishul, Yaadon Ki Baaraat and Seeta Aur Geeta. These films combined gripping plots, sharp dialogue and strong character arcs, setting new commercial and creative benchmarks.

Their stories captured social unrest and personal conflict, giving rise to the ‘angry young man’ archetype that resonated deeply with audiences. Khan’s writing balanced action, drama and emotion while retaining mass appeal. Importantly, the duo also pushed for proper credit and remuneration for writers, changing industry norms.
