Saira Banu says Dilip Kumar 'Vanished as a person' for his roles; shares emotional note on the veteran's birth anniversary

On the birth anniversary of Dilip Kumar, Saira Banu shared an emotional note for her late husband.

Taking to Instagram the veteran actress posted a set of rare throwback videos showing the bond the two shared over the decades. Alongside the clips, she penned a moving note describing how Dilip Kumar would “vanish as a human being” and become one with every character he portrayed.


Addressing him as “My dearest Yousuf Saab,” she wrote, “Every year, when this day returns, it brings with it a gentle stirring in my heart... a mourn of all the seasons I have watched you live, not merely as an artist for the world, but as the finest human being I have ever known.”

In her message, Saira Banu described the extraordinary level of immersion that defined Dilip Kumar’s craft. “People often speak of you as an institution, a phenomenon, a genius beyond comparison and they are right,” she wrote.

She recalled how he prepared for his characters with unmatched discipline: “You breathed in their time, their silence. You dissolved into the soil of each character until even I, who knew you best, would search for the man behind the performance.”

To her, his craft was more than professionalism; it was devotion. “Your dedication was always a sacred offering to your art and fans,” she added.
