Playing a dark character is never easy. So, when asked how he played the role of
Udaybhan Rathod
in the upcoming
‘Tanhaji: The Unsung Hero’
,
Saif Ali Khan says that it was a fine line between outright crazy and being believable. The film, which stars
Ajay Devgn in the lead role along with
Kajol, has Saif playing the antagonist —
Rajput
warrior Udaybhan Rathod, who took on Maratha general Tanaji Malasure in the Battle of
Sinhagad
.
And in a recent interview, Saif revealed what it was like to play such a role. Calling his character as wicked as they come, he even compared him to Joker from the popular Batman movies. Referring to Udaybhan as a smart warrior, who was also unhinged because of his past, he added that the aim was to show him crazy yet lucid. Saif also revealed that they did several takes to ensure the scene was perfect. This, he said, helped him understand his character’s unique personality.
Saif also admitted that the reason two-hero films are not that common today as they were in the ‘90s was because egos often hinder the process. He said it was rare to have both heros get equal footage in a film and added that in the ‘90s, he would often get a smaller role because of this reason.
