Sadiyaan dil se nikli baat hai: Director
Director Raj Kanwar talks about his film, Sadiyaan
What is Sadiyaan about?
It’s a period drama based on an incident which happened during the partition. It’s the story of two mothers, a Hindu played by Rekha and a Muslim played by Hema Malini. Ever since I started making films, I had a dream of casting these two beautiful ladies together. They had no ego clashes and they bond so well.
But period films, even those made by top film makers, don’t work these days.

Sadiyaan dil se nikli baat hai. My granny used to tell me this story, which I have now put on celluloid. Mark my words, people who see Sadiyaan will start loving their parents more than they love them currently.
How did you think of casting Luv Sinha?
I wanted a new boy. I saw Luv at a restaurant and something in me said that he was the guy I wanted for my next film. I sent my son to talk to him and that’s when Luv told him that he is Shatrughanji’s son. He came up to me and we got talking. The next day, I spoke to Shatrughanji and took Luv’s screen test.

Is Luv’s voice as heavy as his father’s?
(Laughs) No. He has a different voice.
Your film Deewana was a blockbuster and Shah Rukh Khan’s first hit. It’s surprising you two haven’t worked together again.
For that to happen, I need a subject that will be better than Deewana. I haven’t got anything like that yet. I am also in touch with Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta who made their first big splash in Bollywood with my film Andaaz. The film industry is a small world.
