In a rare and historic moment, India’s sporting heroes will come together in a special video and talk about that great feeling of winning a gold medal for the country. This special gesture has been initiated by the makers of ‘Gold’, the period sports drama directed by
Reema Kagti, featuring
Akshay Kumar and
Mouni Roy in the leads. Cricket legends like Kapil Dev and
Sachin Tendulkar, tennis star
Sania Mirza along with other leading sport stars like PV Sindhu, PR Sreejesh, Abhinav Bindra,
Vijender Singh, Deepa Malik and
Sunil Chhetri will come together in the video and share their unforgettable moments of winning top honours for India.
This video has been conceptualised for the occasion of the 70th anniversary of independent India’s first gold medal and will release on August 12. One of the prominent people to speak in this presentation will be India’s hockey legend Balbir Singh Sr, who played a key role during the 1948 London Olympics, where free India won its first gold in hockey. Recalling that nostalgic high, the 94-year-old athlete says, “When we won the gold medal in 1948 after beating England, I watched our flag being hoisted and it felt like I was slowly rising into the air along with the fluttering tiranga. That day I realised that we were finally azad.”
Sachin Tendulkar will also be talking about representing India on the international stage in the video. The cricket maestro shares, “Listening to our National Anthem on the field is one of the greatest feeling any sportsmen can have. We feel extremely proud standing there!” Sania Mirza, who has won six grand slams in a long and illustrious career, says, “The pride and emotion that you feel in that particular moment is irreplaceable. You can’t compare it to any other feeling in the whole world.”
