English actress, television personality and lingerie model Gemma Atkinson, better known as soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo’s former flame, is all set to enter Bollywood with Fever (directed by Rajeev Jhaveri). Gemma has replaced
Barbara Mori, who was initially approached for the role. Producer Ravi Agarwal says, “The logistics of bringing Barbara down were prohibitive. It wasn’t working out commercially. Plus, I was strongly of the opinion that we needed a fresh face for the role, and that’s the reason we replaced her.” A brief chat with Gemma on her B-Town debut.
Why did you choose Fever?I loved the script.
It has everything: love, murder and action. The Bollywood film industry is so glamourous. For me, it was about discovering another side and seeing how things in Bollywood are done.
Are you aware that you are the second choice for the part? I wasn’t aware I was replacing anyone, but I will try to do justice to my part.
You got yourself a Hindi tutor? Yes. Learning Hindi was extremely hard. I’m still not fluent but I understand my lines in the script, which is important. I want my lines to come across well on screen.
Are you still in touch with Ronaldo? I have a lot of respect for Cristiano. He's extremely talented. But the rest I like to keep to myself.
Have you done films before?I’ve shot four movies in the UK: a love story called The Sweet Shop, a comedy called How To Stop Being A Loser, which is releasing in cinemas in November, a thriller called Airborne, which I also co-produced. My next project is a remake of Night Of The Living Dead in 3D.
Are you willing to do steamy scenes in Fever? With regards to nudity, it all depends on how it’s being shot and if it’s necessary. There are many ways to show people being in love on screen and Fever is more about the perceived sexual tension than the physical sex. Rajeev is shooting this movie so beautifully that I’m sure the sex scenes will be done tastefully.
