Riya Sen on young actors like Ananya Panday taking on web series: 'Today, talent is what matters, regardless of age' - Exclusive
Riya Sen recently made a cameo in Ananya Panday's 'Call Me Bae', and while her role was small, the experience left a lasting impression. "In Call Me Bae, I had a very tiny cameo—just one or two scenes. But the experience was fantastic. The treatment on set was amazing, and working with Dharma Productions was on another level. Everyone, no matter the size of their role, was treated equally and with respect. That’s something I will always take with me. Even though my role was small, the people I met became friends for life," she shared.
Reflecting on the growing trend of younger actors like Ananya Panday taking on web series, Riya spoke about how the acting profession has evolved. “I don't know about the younger actors or the older actors. I think today, there are so many older actors who are doing brilliant work. I think today, age is no bar. Talent really stands out and I mean, there are the younger lot, but there are also others. I think it's like the older lot that's creating a huge impact in the industry today, just like Hollywood. Lesson has been learnt that age has zero bar when it comes to the acting profession. And I think that's amazing. You see so many people who did not get great opportunities earlier, who are brilliant, are doing amazing work right now. Work that they've never done before. And there is no competition for anyone. Because no one's competing with a certain age group. You just get roles today which are made for your personality, and maybe including your age. So I think, you know, that's really big."
Riya also discussed her personal view on the emergence of web series in India, saying, “For me, even before the web series market exploded here, I always knew it was coming. I have been waiting for this moment. I love watching TV series because they feel more realistic and internationally oriented. Personally, I am extremely happy being part of TV series and could easily do just that, without missing out on films.”
Ask Riya about the concept . You know, the younger actors like Ananya do something like that. At this age, to do a web series, you know. Tell me about that the younger lot, a much more experiment. What do you think about? Because you have seen so much of life, Riya, by now. And first the concept and then work.
