Shoojit Sircar expressed his grief to TOI and said, “I and Rituparno Ghosh were planning to make a Bengali film. He was a director, who used to hardly write for anyone, but I had told him if I ever make a Bengali film you will be my writer.

He readily agreed to write for me and that’s how we started working on our project.”

“The film was supposed to go on floor early next year. He wanted me to direct him and also wrote a role for himself in my film,” added Shoojit.
When asked about the role, Shoojit said, “He was supposed to play the role of an editor of a film magazine. He was very excited about the role and was a prolific writer. We decided to name the movie as Red Carpet.”
On being asked whether the project will be shelved, Shoojit claimed, “Let’s see as we don’t have anyone as talented as him. The writing of the film is remaining and the film was around him as he was also a great actor.”

Shoojit Sircar expressed that he felt illiterate in front of an eminent director like Rituparno Ghosh. “I don’t think in this country anyone understood women better than him. In fact, he understood women better than any woman could understand herself. He understood relationships and he was a milestone in Indian cinema,” added Shoojit.
The Vicky Donor director got emotional when asked whether Rituparno Ghosh saw his award winning film. “Yes, he saw my film after lot of persuasion. I sent him a DVD of Vicky Donor and later he told me his DVD player was not working. However, I didn’t give up and sent him one DVD player. He saw the film and really liked it. In fact, that’s when he told me he wanted me to direct him,” expressed an emotional Shoojit.
He also recollected the last time he spoke to Rituparno. “I called him four five days back and we were going to speak about our film. We also planned to meet on the sets so that we can discuss our Bengali film,” concluded Shoojit.
