Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming spy thriller
Dhaakad
has been turning heads for a while now. It’s rare after all for an Indian film to dabble in the femme fatale genre. The film’s trailer has also been garnering positive response for its technically sound style, cutting-edge action and production design.
Its cinematography has also been a talking point. Director Razneesh 'Razy' Ghai told Bombay Times, what went into convincing the man behind it to get on board.
Razy revealed, “70-year-old
Japanese
cinematographer
Tetsuo Nagata
has shot the film. He is a legend and I am a huge fan of his work. He has never done a Hindi film before. It took me one month to convince him. We had countless sessions where I would explain the scenes and he would tell me what was going on in his head.
La Vie en Rose
is one of my favourite films and he has shot that. That film is visual poetry. After I started working with him I realised how much more I need to learn about lighting. I learnt from the Japanese and the Thais that either you respect what you do or you don’t do it.”
