Helen marked her 87th birthday in style on Wednesday with a grand celebration at Mumbai’s Mercii, a venue owned by Arpita Sharma. The party saw several special guests, and among them was veteran actress Rekha, whose arrival at the event quickly became a hit online. Her entry video is now winning hearts across social media.

The veteran actress brought her timeless charm to Mercii, dressed in a chic all-black outfit paired with a blue denim jacket. She completed her look with her hair neatly tied up, a quirky handbag, comfy sneakers, and her trademark golden bangles along with chunky earrings. Adding to the elegance, she wore sunglasses, bold lipstick, and sindoor.

Just before stepping inside the venue, the diva warmly greeted the paparazzi and even chatted with them for a bit. In a playful moment, she picked up a camera and began clicking photos of the photographers themselves.

Helen’s journey in Bollywood

Born in Myanmar, Helen Anne Richardson became one of Bollywood’s most graceful and iconic dancers of the 60s and 70s. She began her career as a background dancer in the 1951 film 'Awaara', but it was the 1958 classic Howrah Bridge that changed everything for her. The evergreen song 'Mera Naam Chin Chin Chu' made her a nationwide sensation.

Over the years, Helen performed in more than 600 films, winning hearts with her unmatched dance style and screen presence. Movies like 'Woh Kaun Thi', 'Gumnaam', 'Kaajal', 'Jewel Thief', 'Yakeen', 'The Train', and 'Caravan' stand out among her most memorable works. In 2009, she was honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri by the Government of India for her contribution to cinema.

Her bond with the Khan family

Screenwriter Salim Khan, known for legendary films like 'Sholay', 'Zanjeer', and 'Deewar', first married Salma Khan (formerly Sushila Charak) in 1964, and together they have five children: Salman, Arbaaz, Sohail, Alvira, and Arpita. In 1981, he married Helen, who gradually became an inseparable part of the family. Over the years, she built a loving relationship with every member of the Khan household and continues to be cherished by them all.
