In the last few months, Delhi has had crews for different movies flying in and out of the city to shoot in the famous Dilli ki sardi. The latest addition to that list is the team of critically acclaimed films like My Brother Nikhil and I Am,
Onir and Sanjay Suri. The producer-director duo is currently shooting the final schedule for their next film, Shab, at different locations across NCR.
DT caught the team live in action during one such sequence where we spoke to the director about his love for the capital and its glorious four seasons. He said, “One thing that’s distinct to Delhi is its four glorious seasons and we’re using that aspect in the movie. We’re currently on the fourth season, the winters, and Delhi is just beautiful these days. In fact, the people on the streets or in the markets are also so well-dressed during winters and that has been captured in the movie.”
READ: Raveena Tandon: Bold things only the actress could pull off The crew has shot extensively in locations like the Hauz Khas Village, GK I and Pitampura, which we were told was a conscious decision in order to show Delhi beyond its monuments and roads. Onir said, “This was one thing we decided right at the beginning, that we will not shoot at the India Gate or show a passing shot of the Parliament and the Lutyens area or the big Hanuman statue. Delhi is so much more than these stock shots which have been used all these years and therefore we made a list of places we did not want to shoot at. To show the more Western, well-to-do characters of the film, we’ve used the many hotels of the city. Keeping in mind the Western settings we’ve shot in Gurgaon and in Hauz Khas Village and GK, and to show their homes and where they come from, we’ve used Pitampura kind of places. There’s so much more to Delhi than just the stalk shots and because of the diversity of seasons and locations, Delhi is looking beautiful in the film.”
The scene which we covered was shot inside the discotheque of a hotel in Gurgaon and resembled that of a typical page 3 party, complete with a stylish fashion designer and his many male model friends dancing around him. We met actress
Raveena Tandon shooting scenes with Delhi boy Ashish Bisht who is making his debut in the movie. Raveena plays a high-profile socialite and a fashion diva in the film, while Ashish is a struggling model. In between takes, Raveena told us, “Onir and the team are very good friends of mine and I am doing this for him. In fact, everything is so casual that I didn’t even get a brief and wasn’t even informed of the workshops. Doston ke saath kaam karne ki yehi problem hoti hai, koi seriously hi nahi leta,” she joked, before getting back in front of the camera. We also spoke to Sanjay Suri, who plays Raveena’s husband in what he calls a ‘muh dikhai’ role. He said, “I won’t even call it a cameo, it is literally a muh dikhai role which I shot for on Monday. Today I am here as a producer and just to see what’s happening.”
