Ranvir Shorey: I have huge respect for journalists but I’m wary of film journalists

Ranvir Shorey plays a journalist-activist in the forthcoming film Gour Hari Dastaan, directed by Ananth Mahadevan. The film depicts the struggle of freedom fighter Gour Haridas and his 32-year fight with the bureaucracy to prove that he was a freedom fighter. Ranvir says he has huge respect for journalists with the exception of film journalists.

"It’s the film journalists that I’m wary of," says Ranvir with a mischievous grin.Further talking about his character, he says, “I have based my character on C P Surendran’s script, it is a tight script and screenplay. Since he lives in Delhi, I would skype with him to understand his approach to the material. ​He is a cynical guy and that is what I have brought into my character."

Ranvir continues, "I also play an activist in the film besides the journalist. It was fun. It was not very difficult, it is a supporting role with good references, script and a great technical team. It is the kind of subject which you reach maximum number of people as it speaks volumes for the state of the country. It is an important film and I am happy that right kind of people are supporting it."
