Rani Mukerji revisits 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', 'Saathiya' and 'Black'; Says, ‘I can’t recreate that magic’

Actor Rani Mukerji recently looked back at some of the most defining moments of her film career. In a recent interview, the 'Mardaani 3' actor revisited memorable roles from her blockbuster projects such as 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', 'Saathiya', 'Black' and the popular 'Mardaani' franchise.

Remembering the magic of 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'

One of Mukerji’s most beloved roles remains Tina from 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'. The actor recalled the moment when filmmaker Karan Johar narrated the script to her for the first time. “When Karan narrated the story to me, there was magic in the room. He was so sincere and honest," she said in conversation with IMDB.




The film went on to become one of the biggest hits of its time and continues to remain a favourite among audiences. Rani Mukerji said the movie helped her realise the kind of bond she shared with viewers.

“That film made me understand how the audience accepted me. The importance of 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' in my life is immense," she noted. She further added, “In 30 years, Tina has resonated with every decade."

How 'Saathiya' connected with young women

Rani Mukerji also opened up on the emotional connection of 'Saathiya' which was widely appreciated for its portrayal of relationships and marriage.

According to her, the film strongly connected with young women at the time of its release because of the determination shown by her character.

“It was the story of a girl who stuck to what she wanted in life," she explained.

The actress added that the film presented a woman who was determined to balance both her personal life and her professional aspirations. Talking about the romantic drama 'Hum Tum', Rani Mukerji highlighted how the film offered a refreshing portrayal of women on screen.

“It was a film that changed how women were viewed in cinema," she said.

She also spoke about her character Riya and the way she constantly challenged the male protagonist played by Saif Ali Khan. “The beauty of Riya was that she questioned Saif’s character." she noted.

Black: A career-defining experience

Among the many films in her career, Mukerji described 'Black' as one of the most significant milestones. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film remains one of her most critically acclaimed performances. “I won’t ever be able to recreate that magic," she admitted.

Rani Mukerji recalled being surprised when Bhansali offered her the challenging role. “I was in disbelief that Sanjay Leela Bhansali thought I could pull off a role like that," she said. The actor added that the film had a profound emotional impact on her. “Black taught me to be grateful for everything we have in life."

Rani Mukerji also expressed affection for 'Bunty Aur Babli', calling it one of her favourite projects. “It was one of my favourite films that I’ve shot," she said. The actor pointed out that the film played an important role in bringing small-town India into mainstream storytelling. “It was the first time small towns were shown in mainstream Hindi cinema. Before that, it was all glamorous and international," she explained.
