Rani Mukerji revisits 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', 'Saathiya' and 'Black'; Says, ‘I can’t recreate that magic’

The film went on to become one of the biggest hits of its time and continues to remain a favourite among audiences. Rani Mukerji said the movie helped her realise the kind of bond she shared with viewers.
How 'Saathiya' connected with young women
Rani Mukerji also opened up on the emotional connection of 'Saathiya' which was widely appreciated for its portrayal of relationships and marriage.
“It was the story of a girl who stuck to what she wanted in life," she explained.
The actress added that the film presented a woman who was determined to balance both her personal life and her professional aspirations. Talking about the romantic drama 'Hum Tum', Rani Mukerji highlighted how the film offered a refreshing portrayal of women on screen.
She also spoke about her character Riya and the way she constantly challenged the male protagonist played by Saif Ali Khan. “The beauty of Riya was that she questioned Saif’s character." she noted.
Black: A career-defining experience
Rani Mukerji recalled being surprised when Bhansali offered her the challenging role. “I was in disbelief that Sanjay Leela Bhansali thought I could pull off a role like that," she said. The actor added that the film had a profound emotional impact on her. “Black taught me to be grateful for everything we have in life."
Rani Mukerji also expressed affection for 'Bunty Aur Babli', calling it one of her favourite projects. “It was one of my favourite films that I’ve shot," she said. The actor pointed out that the film played an important role in bringing small-town India into mainstream storytelling. “It was the first time small towns were shown in mainstream Hindi cinema. Before that, it was all glamorous and international," she explained.
