Ranbir Kapoor made his Bollywood debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 'Saawariya' in 2007. The movie bombed at the box office, and in a recent revelation, Ranbir called this failure the fuel for his success.
While talking to Nikhil Kamath on his podcast, Ranbir recollected some memories of working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali on his debut film. The actor was eager to be on screen after finishing his studies, and every director or producer in the industry wanted to launch him at that time.
However, he was a big fan of Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Ranbir prepared a resume and waited outside SLB’s office, thinking the director might not know him. But after reviewing his resume, the director recognized him, and the first thing SLB told him when they met was, "I want to make a film with you."
Ranbir started working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali as one of his assistants. The restless 13-14 hour shifts daily, along with the director’s short temper, hardened Ranbir. But the failure of 'Saawariya' truly prepared him for the life ahead.
'Saawariya' also marked the debut of Sonam Kapoor and faced off against Farah Khan’s 'Om Shanti Om', which starred Shah Rukh Khan and introduced Deepika Padukone.
