Ram Gopal Varma announces the ambitious thriller 'Syndicate' which explores the rise of a terrifying organisation

Director Ram Gopal Varma, known for his impactful films in the 90s and early 2000s, has announced his return to cinema with an ambitious new project titled 'Syndicate..'. Recently the 62-year-old filmmaker shared details about his upcoming project on social media,, which will be based on the rise of a terrifying organization that threatens the very existence of India.

Varma made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter),, where he wrote a detailednote about the film's premise and its relevance to contemporary society. His tweet reads, "In CONTINUATION to my CONFESSION note on the SATYAATYA film, DECIDED to make the BIGGEST film ever.. The film is called SYNDICATE. It’s about a terrifying organization thatthreatens the very EXISTENCE of INDIA.

He wrote that the film focuses on how criminal organizations have evolved over time, from street gangs in the 70s to modern corporate gangs like D Company. He shared that while there hasn't been a notable criminal organization in India for the past decade, the current political and social polarization in the country creates a ripe environment for a new kind of syndicate to emerge.

He further wrote, "But unlike the organizations of the past,, this new organization joins forces from various groups,, including POLICING AGENCIES, POLITICOS, ULTRA-RICH BUSINESSMEN, and also the MILITARY,, thus making it a SYNDICATE. SYNDICATE is a futuristic story not set in the farawayfuture,but what can happen even tomorrow or next week?

Varma asserts that just as earlier organizations were absorbed or destroyed by political forces and economic reforms, today's potential syndicate could involve a coalition of policing agencies, politicians, wealthy businessmen, and even military forces.

He also wrote, "For example,, the entire world woke up to Al Qaeda on September 11th, 2001, but did not know of of its existence even on September 10th SYNDICATE film begins with a statement:: “ONLY MAN CAN BE THE MOST TERRIFYING ANIMAL.” This sets the stage for a chain of unimaginable but highly terrifying and intricately calculated events, orchestratedby a shadowy organization called the SYNDICATE, whose only goal is to REPLACE INDIA WITH A NEW INDIA. SYNDICATE will be a very SCARY FILM, not due to any supernatural elements, but because it will SCARILY expose what HORRORS HUMAN BEINGS CAN DO.

The film will delve into the cyclical nature of crime and terror, that while society may achieve victories against crime, it never truly eradicates it. Instead, crime evolves into more dangerous forms. Varma aims to "wash away" his cinematic sins from recent years with this project, promising a film that will expose the horrors humans can inflict upon one another without relying on supernatural elements.
