Filmmaker Pradeep Sarkar who made movies like Vidya Balan's 'Parineeta', Rani Mukerji's 'Mardaani' among others, passed away this morning. The director was on dialysis and his potassium levels dropped drastically. He was rushed to the hospital at 3 am and passed away there at 3 30 am.
This news has left his friends from the industry shocked. Raima Sen who has worked with him in 'Parineeta' is in disbelief. Raima spoke to Etimes and said, "On March 22, I was in Kolkata for an award function and when I got an award, I mentioned Pradeep Sarkar and Vinay Shukla in my thank you speech. I sent that video to both of them after I came home. While I got a reply from Vinay, Dada didn't respond and that was so unlike him because he always was prompt with his replies."
To Raima's dismay, she got a reply this morning from Sarkar's phone but his wife has messaged saying that he is no more. This is the message which Raima got in response to her video. Raima who stays in Kolkata most of the times, shared, "I didn't know he was ailing and I can't believe it. We had kept in touch. I met him once after the lockdown when I was in Mumbai and I had gone over to his place."
Pradeep Sarkar started his career as a filmmaker with brand commercials and a few music videos before he made his directorial debut with 'Parineeta' in 2005. His last rites will take place at Santacruz Hindu Crematorium at 4pm today.
