Raghubir Yadav’s Gujarati connection
Actor Raghubir Yadav, who shot to fame with the teleserial Mungerilal Ke Haseen Sapne (1990) and won critical acclaim for his performances in Lagaan (2001) and Peepli Live (2010), is looking forward to his funny act in Club 60. The actor plays a mischievous and overbearing Gujarati, Mannubhai Shah, who dons goggles, colourful T-shirts and speaks loudly. “What drew me to the character is that fact that he does not let anything mar his happiness,” says Yadav.

Director Sanjay Tripathy reveals that the actor was to originally play a different role. All that changed when Raghubir narrated a funny incident on the set with typical comical expressions and body language. “The entire team broke into laughter and I immediately saw my character Mannubhai in him. The fact that he’d done a Gujarati film in the past and even had a song in it convinced me further that he was right for the part,” says Tripathy.
Club 60, presented by Bharat Shah and produced by Kavee Kumar, releases December 6.
