Raghu is cool, says Sugandha
You need to catch up with the energy that Sugandha Garg exudes. The vivacious actress, who was noticed for all the right reasons in Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na and My Name Is Khan, and stars in the recently-released Tere Bin Laden, tells us, “I’m energetic because I can see the finish line and I know that I’m in the right lane.” Quite true, as our questions are hardly met with a pause.

“Jaane Tu... opened doors for me. Then I got My Name Is Khan, and now I’ve done TBL with director Abhishek Sharma. After this, I’ll be doing Patang, which is an Indo-American project. I play a girl who sort of discovers her roots.”
The mention of MNIK makes her recall fondly, “In all my scenes with Shah Rukh, I’m positioned on his left at the back. And he used to push me forward, saying, ‘You are very tiny, you won’t be seen, so come in front and show your face. He’s such a gentleman and cool with his star status.” And how did she bag the role in Tere Bin Laden? “As I said, things changed after Jaane Tu... Abhishek saw the film, called me for auditions and I was taken. When he narrated the script, I fell off my seat and said, ‘Whether you do it or not, I’m doing the film!’” she says. Wasn’t she apprehensive about the ‘Osama’ theme? “I guess I’m quirky, I get drawn to things that are a little different. And everything depends upon the script,” she replies.
Sugandha has grown out of the mould of playing the heroine’s buddy, and says she’s all set for lead roles. “I am ready to take the challenge of playing the lead. When you are the lead, you have many shades to portray, there’s so much you can do with your character, looks, and more.” And her character in her new release is close to all this, as she says, “It has many shades. I’m the only girl surrounded by four boys in the film, and slightly flirtatious. It’s a far cry from the sitting-pretty kinds.”
But Sugandha hates answering one question, and that’s about her husband, Raghu Ram of Roadies fame – is Raghu like that in real life? “What he is in Roadies is his work and there’s life beyond that. When he is with me he is not like that, so I don’t know...” says she. So how is he? “He’s cool and when he loses his temper, only our pet dog, Zuk Zuk, can calm him down!”
