Radhika Madan reveals how she landed a role in Angrezi Medium, even shot with a ‘nakli Irrfan Khan’: ‘I just wanted to show off…’

During a vlog-style visit to Radhika Madan’s home, filmmaker Farah Khan found herself amused by the actor’s journey to Angrezi Medium. Over a plate of aloo puri and buttermilk, Farah teased Radhika about her role prompting laughter and a candid retelling of how the part was won not handed.

Radhika’s persistence pays off

Radhika shared that she had signed her first film and was auditioning just for fun when she heard about ‘Angrezi Medium.’ but they had already locked someone else. She further revealed that she kept pushing and pestering them until they gave in—"Please take my audition!" she requested. Director Homi Adajania was told she did not fit the brief as they were looking for a 17-year-old but eventually relented.

The year of star kids

Farah asked if a star kid had been cast before her. Radhika shrugged, “I don’t know.” Farah jokes about how everyone blames star kids for gatekeeping but then accuses Radhika saying "she’s the actual scene-stealer!” In response Radhika laughed, and replied that all she wanted to do was brag in front of her friends about auditioning.

Six auditions and a ‘nakli Irrfan Khan’

Radhika went through six rounds of auditions, including one opposite a stand-in for Irrfan Khan. Farah jokes, “Are you sure that wasn’t Babil?” which is a reference to Irrfan’s son. Radhika laughed, recalling how surreal the process felt.

Transformation and commitment: Losing 12 kilos for the role

To embody her character, Radhika was asked to lose 12 kilos as she shared how most people don't know that she gained weight for 'Pataakha.' As she underscored the physical commitment behind the performance.

From Facebook message to first shoot

Radhika’s acting journey began with a Facebook message inviting her to audition in Delhi. Skeptical, she took friends along, ready to confront a scam. After three days, she got a call, did a look test, and on the fifth day, she was shooting her first TV show.
