Raashii Khanna joins Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan for Anees Bazmee directed comedy riot - Report

Recent reports have suggested that Raashii Khanna has joined Akshay Kumar’s next film, which will be directed by Anees Bazmee. The film is still in the early stage with no official announcement from the team yet. Reports have also suggested that the film is expected to go on floors very soon, and things are falling into place step by step.

Why was Raashii Khanna chosen?

Reportedly, the makers were looking for the right fit for the role. After much deliberation, the team locked '120 Bahadur' actor Raashii Khanna. A report from Bollywood Hungama stated, “The makers had been deliberating a good choice, and the search ended with Raashii. Her choices- be it an impactful role in 120 Bahadur, or The Sabarmati Report impressed the team. She has signed on the dotted line."


As per the same report, the film’s shoot is expected to begin from January 15 and go on till January 20. This film will bring Akshay Kumar and Anees Bazmee together again after a long time. It also marks a reunion for Bazmee, Kumar, and Vidya Balan, who earlier worked together in 'Thank You'. The director is known for his fun and light films. This one is also expected to be full of funny scenes and playful moments. The idea is to use Akshay Kumar’s natural comic timing and Vidya Balan’s fun side that people loved in 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa'.

Raashii Khanna on cinema and choices

The '120 Bahadur' actress started her film journey with 'Madras Café' in 2013. After that, she found great success in the South with 'Oohalu Gusagusalade' and many more films. Speaking about her choices earlier in an exclusive interview with ETimes, she said, "After I did ‘Madras Café’ there was no plan that I want to do Bollywood films now or only South. I was looking for content and I got it in the South when I signed my first Telugu film ‘Oohalu Gusagusalade’, it was a great film. At that time I didn’t get the film offers that I wanted, I was clear that I will only sign a certain kind of film, I just don’t want to be a filler in a film."

Khanna also added, "South films opened up that avenue for me and gave me a lot more than what I was asking for. I just went with the flow and never thought that I have to go back to Hindi. This is because it’s cinema and language doesn’t matter. Cinema is a language in itself."
