In a recent interaction, the actor reflected on his own experiences across India and emphasised that language has never posed a challenge in his personal or professional journey.
R Madhavan reacts to Hindi- Marathi language row
In an interview with IANS, Madhavan pointed out that his exposure to various languages and cultures has only enriched his life. When asked about the linguistic and regional divide that has become a hot topic, he shared:
“No, I have never experienced it. I speak Tamil. I speak Hindi. And I have studied in Kolhapur also. I have learnt Marathi as well. So, I have never had any problem because of language – neither because of knowing it nor because of not knowing it.”
Ongoing discussion on language
The actor’s comments come amid heightened tensions triggered by a state government decision in Maharashtra. The issue first gained attention in April when the government mandated the inclusion of Hindi as a third language in state-run primary schools, alongside Marathi and English. The move aligned with the central government’s three-language formula but sparked a wave of criticism.
Reaction from celebrities
Earlier, singer Udit Narayan had also weighed in, underlining the importance of valuing all Indian languages equally.
“We live in Maharashtra, and it is my 'Karma bhoomi' (workplace). So, the language here is also important. Along with that, all the languages in our country are equally important,” he told IANS.
Actor Ajay Devgn briefly addressed the issue during the trailer launch of his upcoming film 'Son of Sardaar 2'.
Madhavan's work front
On the work front, Madhavan was last seen in the OTT film 'Aap Jaisa Koi' alongside Fatima Sana Shaikh. He will soon be seen in Dhurandhar. The story follows Shrirenu, a shy, middle-aged man, who has nearly given up on finding love, urged by his friend to try a dating app. Through it, he meets Madhu, a confident and independent woman.
