Priyanka Chopra to Deepika Padukone: 10 times celebrities were mistaken for other people

In this day and age of social media, it is not very often that you hear of global stars being mistaken for other people. However, the same could not be said for Bollywood divas like Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone and even Hollywood stars Samuel L Jackson, Jake Gyllenhaal who were at some point caught up in a case of mistaken identity. While some just laughed it off, others took it to heart.

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra on Thursday reacted to Rosie O'Donnell's video, in which the American comedian apologised for mistaking her for the daughter of Indian-born American author Deepak Chopra. PeeCee reacted to O'Donnell's public apology by posting a note on her Instagram Stories.

The actor said it would have been better if the comedian had only Googled her name, and went on to add, "We ALL deserve to be respected for our unique individuality and not be referred to as 'someone' or 'wife', especially in a sincere apology. If we can learn to respect our differences in an authentic way, the world we raise our children in will be amazing."

3/11

Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone not only went unrecognised by foreign media but was also mistaken as Priyanka Chopra on one of her trips to LA. When Deepika was asked about the incident, she lashed out at the foreign press, terming it as "racism".

At a Cannes press event in 2017, Deepika addressed the incident and said, "It's not just me being offended. Everyone should be offended. It is not just ignorance, it is racist. Two people of the same colour aren't the same. You should educate them and not encourage them."

4/11

Sonam Kapoor

Sonam Kapoor, a Cannes regular, also became a victim of ignorance when her photos were shared on a stock photo agency as 'Indian actress Deepika Padukone'. Sonam was attending the Cannes 2017 red carpet event where she was mistaken for DP, who was also among the attendees.

5/11

Minissha Lamba

In the same year as the Sonam Kapoor fiasco, Indian actress Minissha Lamba also found herself mistaken for fellow Indian beauty Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The actress, who walked the red carpet at the Cannes event, was tagged as Ash on media portals.

6/11

Mallika Sherawat

Back in the day, Mallika Sherawat also hit headlines when she was mistaken for Bond girl Stephanie Sigman. The foreign press mistook Sherawat for the Mexican star while she was promoting her film with Jackie Chan.

7/11

Samuel L Jackson

Samuel L Jackson, known the world over for his role as Nick Fury in Marvel's 'Avengers' franchise, is no stranger when it comes to dealing with mistaken identity. In fact, the actor is mistaken with others so many times, that he doesn't even mind. The actor doesn't even bother to correct people and laughed it off to AP, saying, "I just sign what they want me to sign for whoever they think I am."

8/11

Jake Gyllenhaal

Hollywood heartthrob Jake Gyllenhaal has also been mistaken for other people. The actor confessed he was once mistaken for Aaron Rodgers. Sharing his thoughts about the same, he quipped, “I think as actors we like to think that we’re special, but most of the time people really can’t differentiate any of us. We’re all sort of the same, with no real special skill besides the fact that you know our hair looks nice ’cause somebody else did it."

9/11

Sienna Miller

Sienna Miller has no qualms about being mistaken for fellow blonde and bestie Naomi Watts. In a statement to AP, the actress said, “Me and Naomi Watts are friends, but we often get sent each other’s headshots to sign, which I’ll take happily."

10/11

Kumail Nanjiani

Pakistani-American actor Kumail Nanjiani who most recently starred in the Marvel film 'Eternals' has been mistaken for other celebrities so many times that he now considers them his lookalikes. A report on AP quotes the actor saying that he cites Kunal Nayyar, Aziz Ansari and Hasan Minhaj as his celebrity lookalikes. "It happens to them with me. And so, I feel at least we all have this weird thing in common in that we get mistaken for each other, even though we don’t really look alike," he said.

11/11

Mindy Kaling

Actress Mindy Kaling also revealed her most unusual identity goof. The Hollywood star and mother of two revealed that she was once mistaken for Nobel Prize-winning activist Malala Yousafzai. News agency AP quoted the actress saying, "I was once mistaken at a New Yorker party for Malala. And I said, ‘I'll take it. She’s 19. That’s fine."
