Priyanka Chopra, who lives in the United States with her husband Nick Jonas, took to Instagram to congratulate Zohran Mamdani on making history as New York City’s youngest mayor and its first Muslim to hold the position.

Sharing Zohran Mamdani’s victory moment the actress posted a screenshot of Zohran speaking to his supporters following his victory. She showed her excitement on Instagram Stories with the words: “Congratulations Zohran Mamdani. New York City’s 111th Mayor! History made. Congratulations, Mira Nair.” For those who might not know, Zohran is the son of the famous filmmaker Mira Nair and the well-known Ugandan-Indian scholar Mahmood Mamdani.

Zohran, who is only 34, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming New York City's youngest mayor and its first Muslim to hold the office. Born in Kampala, Uganda, his family later lived in Cape Town before settling in New York. He is an alumnus of The Bronx High School of Science and earned a degree in Africana Studies from Bowdoin College. Prior to his election as mayor, Zohran served as a member of the New York State Assembly.
