When legendary filmmaker Pramod Chakravorty’s grandson decided to make his first film, he knew he had to live up to the legacy left by his grandfather, who is credited with making hits such as Jugnu and Dream Girl, among others. So, for the film From
Sydney With Love, his debut as a director and actor, Prateek went all out to find the right cast.
For the movie, produced by Pramod Films, Prateek found one of his lead actors through a social networking website.
Before you ask him about this unusual way of casting for the lead, Prateek answers, “Yes, Bidita Bag was spotted and cast through a social networking site. I had put up a message saying that I wanted to cast someone good looking, who knew Hindi well and could add a touch of Bengali to the character of Megha Bannerjee. When I came across Bidita, I knew she was just right for the part. Within no time, she became a part of this film.”
Talking next about casting Sharad Malhotra in the character of Rohit Khurrana, Prateek says, “I just gave Sharad a brief on his character and asked him to prepare in the way he perceived the character. I wanted his creative inputs. And he did an absolutely fabulous job, passing with flying colours. I first got to know about Sharad through my casting agent. It was only after I had signed him for the film that I learnt from my grandmother that Sharad is a popular face on television. I was not even aware of his television background. It was through sheer luck that I found the right cast that is so important for my film.”
