Fomer Union minister Kapil Sibal has turned his love for literary interest into Bollywood. The Congressman has given the lyrics for the upcoming Hindi film, Zainab. And this also includes giving lyrics for an item song and a Qawwali in the film. The film, a romantic political potboiler, is themed on the riots of Muzaffarnagar and stars Ashutosh Rana, Jimmy Sheirgil, Hiten Tejwani, Sanjay Suri and Turkish debutant Suha Gezen. The film has been directed by Pranav Singh, a bureaucrat turned filmmaker.

Recently, Sibal who has written two journals of poems, has also given lyrics for a film Bandook by providing lyrics for the romantic number TuBataaDe and has also collaborated with AR Rahman for his studio album Raunaq with seven singles written by him.
Says the 66 year old Sibal, “Cinema is the most effective way of creating awareness and spreading social message. Through this film I’d like to convey the principles of happiness, humanity and harmony. Until we don't change our perception and mentality, no law will can change society. If we want to make our society more compassionate, the psyche of every individual needs to change.”
