Pankaj Tripathi's wife Mridula opens up about how mother-in-law hasn't accepted her after 19 years of marriage

Acclaimed actor Pankaj Tripathi's wife Mridula recently came forward to talk about the lingering family tension around their marriage.

In a candid interview with the Conversations with Atul YouTube channel, Mridula revealed that after 19 years of marriage, her mother-in-law hasn't totally accepted her. They married in 2004, 12 years after they got together, over much opposition from both families.

The point of family tension was the social status of their families.

Mridula shared that one of her relatives had already married into Pankaj’s family, creating a perceived imbalance in their families' social stature, which made their marriage difficult to accept.

Mridula remembered the day she and Pankaj met first at a sibling's pre-wedding ceremony, when they were both in school. However, the pressures from their respective families kept the relationship a secret for many years. The fact that the two have to be married proved to be a challenging task considering the complicated relationship between the two families.

Once Mridula was on the brink of being married off to someone else as that alliance failed due to dowry demands.

Despite her father’s support for her marriage to Pankaj, Mridula's mother-in-law remains upset about the match even today. "She hasn’t accepted me, and I don’t think she ever will. The whole 'Kul' issue is still there," Mridula revealed.

However, she also added that despite this lingering tension, the rest of the family now shares a close bond. Mridula and Pankaj continue to enjoy a happy and supportive marriage.

On work front, Pankaj Tripathi was last seen in 'Stree 2' which also starred Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Abhishek Banerjee and Aparshakti Khurrana.
