Dancer-actress
Pooja Sawant is widely known for her work in
Marathi
and
Hindi
films. She stood out in
Junglee
(2019) and her work was particularly appreciated in Marathi thriller
Lapachhapi
(2017). The film has been now remade in Hindi as
Chhorii
with Nushrratt Bharuccha in the lead.
Speaking of the adaptation, Pooja reveals, “Hindi remake of course brings in more audience but the original work always has an edge and I’m glad that I will continue being the original Chhorri. I am very excited that Nusharatt has played the lead. She is a good actress. This role will always be close to my heart. It was an interesting character and a challenging role.”
She added, “It feels super proud. When we were making Lapachhapi, we never thought of what could happen with this film. It was a massive hit and received acknowledgment in many film festivals including Madrid film festival and London film festival. Vishal is a wonderful director. When he narrated Lapachhapi to me, I said yes immediately without any second thoughts. He made the process very easy. We shot the filmin 16 days, it happens only when the captain of the ship is confident.”
Pooja will be next seen in Marathi horror film, Bali and Love U Mitraalong with
Gashmeer Mahajani.
