Noted painter B C Sanyal dead

New Delhi: Noted painter B C Sanyal died here today after a brief illness, family sources said. He was 102.
Born early last century in Dhubri in Assam, Sanyal carved out a niche for himself in Lahore where he started the Lahore College of Arts.
Besides other prestigious awards, Sanyal was also awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1987.
The themes of his paintings focused on human struggles, especially by the economically deprived sections of the society.
His well-known paintings include ''The Flying Scarecrow'', ''Despair'' and ''Way to Peace'', which shows Gandhi with a Hindu and a Muslim child.
