While some B-Town couples, like Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma-Virat Kohli, had opted for destination weddings before the pandemic, today, most celebs are choosing to tie the knot on their home turf. While some have picked their wedding venues for sentimental reasons, for others, it just made sense logistically during the pandemic.
This phase also saw Bollywood weddings changing form from mega shaadis to more intimate and private affairs, of course without compromising on the fun and festivities. The wedding of the season –
Ranbir Kapoor and
Alia Bhatt’s marriage – will take place at their residence. The duo is set to tie the knot today at their Pali Hill home in Bandra. Also, Krishna Raj, the Kapoor family’s residence in Bandra, which is currently being reconstructed, has been lit up for the occasion and also in memory of Ranbir’s father, actor Rishi Kapoor, who passed away in 2020. Here’s looking at the recently newly-wed couples who preferred tying the knot in a low-key affair amid a few loved ones and at venues close to their hearts:
Yami Gautam Dhar-Aditya Dhar
Yami married Uri: The Surgical Strike director Aditya Dhar in her hometown, Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh. The actress kept the event a hush-hush affair and got married in the presence of her family members and close friends. Yami received a lot of praise for keeping the ceremony simple and homely. Talking about it, she had told BT, “I always knew that whenever this moment happens in my life, it will be a beautiful, small and a homely ceremony, pandemic or no pandemic. We didn’t plan this wedding, we just went along with it. We barely had a month to prepare. Even if there was no pandemic, this is exactly what we wanted— a wedding amidst nature and where our heart belongs — Himachal.”

Shibani Dandekar Akhtar
Farhan Akhtar and Shibani Dandekar hosted a cosy wedding at Farhan’s father, Javed Akhtar’s farmhouse in Khandala. The scenic venue was decked up in a pink and white theme. Apart from the family members, a few B-Town celebrities, including Farah Khan, Rhea Chakraborty, Satish Shah, Ritesh Sidhwani, Hrithik Roshan, and his parents, Rakesh and Pinkie Roshan, were among the guests at the intimate do. A post-wedding bash was held at Farhan’s residence in Bandra.

Vikrant Massey-Sheetal Vikrant Massey
Vikrant and Sheetal registered their marriage in February this year at their home in Versova. Then, they left for Himachal, where they tied the knot at Sheetal’s ancestral house at Shahatali. The duo also hosted a haldi ceremony in the presence of their family members. Like a quintessential dulha, Vikrant arrived on a horse along with the baaraatis. Later, the couple followed all the traditional customs and rituals and were pronounced man and wife. “Ours was a regular middle-class wedding. Shaadi mein kaafi faltu kharche hotay hai. Hum woh sab cut karke ghar jaisi shaadi hi chahte thay. We both chose her ancestral house for a reason. Sheetal’s grandmother is 108 years old and she cannot travel. Hum amma ke yaha hi shaadi karna chahte thay so the ancestral house,” Vikrant had said about his shaadi.
Dia Mirza Rekhi-Vaibhav Rekhi
Dia, who’s known to advocate issues like climate change, hosted the ceremony in a sustainable and eco-friendly manner. Dia and businessman Vaibhav Rekhi hosted their nuptial ceremony in the garden area of Dia’s home in Bandra. The festivities began with a bridal shower, which was attended by Dia’s near and dear ones. The shaadi also made headlines as the actress had a female priest presiding over the wedding ceremony.
