Akshay Kumar’s 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2' and SRK’s 'Chennai Express' will not release in Pakistan this Eid. Sheikh Amjad Rasheed, chairman, IMGC global in Pakistan and a film distributor there, tells us, “We are not planning to release the two Bollywood movies during Eid mainly due to two reasons. Firstly, there are few Pak films like
Waar, Josh, Main Hoon Shahid Afridi and a Punjabi movie
Ishq Khuda set to release during Eid, so people in Pakistan are eagerly waiting to watch those.
The release of
Chennai Express and
Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2 will be postponed by a week. Although, we will suffer a loss of 25% if we screen the movies a week after Eid. Secondly, considering the demand for Bollywood movies in Pakistan, there is an increase in the purchase of the movie rights. This is another major issue.”
Nadeem Mandviwalla, a leading exhibitor in Karachi says, “The four Pakistani films which want more screens this Eid are good productions, and we will see how the public responds to them. As far as the Indian movies are concerned, their release on Eid would have meant a bonanza for the exhibitors.”
